Neuroplasticity and Cogmed Training

Neuroplasticity is the brain's ability to change, adapt and 'rewire'. It refers to the physiological changes that occur. Our brains have the capacity to form or rebuild connections, even following a brain injury or stroke. The operating part of the brain has the ability to 'take over' a damaged part of the brain and function.

There is a large body of evidence to support the plasticity of working memory, that working memory capacity can be improved with specific and intensive training.

Cogmed Training has proven to improve working memory as evidenced by the physical changes in functional brain activity. Tools such as brain imaging (e.g. MRI, PET) show altered functional brain activity after Cogmed intervention manifested as:

Changes in the neurochemistry

Modulated activity related to working memory

Strengthened functional connectivity at rest
